Rowland Stout is a Full Professor and Head of School of Philosophy at University College Dublin (UCD). He holds a BPhil and DPhil from Oxford University, an MSc from the University of Sussex, and has held academic positions at institutions including Manchester University and Oxford. His research focuses on philosophy of agency, moral philosophy, emotions, and the metaphysics of mind. Key publications include Things That Happen Because They Should (1996) and the upcoming Passions in Action (2025). He has directed the UCD Centre for Ethics in Public Life and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Philosophical Studies. Awards include Royal Irish Academy membership (2019).
