Prof. Dr. Rowena Roppelt serves as Professor for Liturgics and Dogmatics (Substitute) and Vice Chair of Study and Teaching at the School of Transformation and Sustainability, Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. She also holds the Professorial Coordination of the JWL Cooperation and chairs the Examination Board for BA Religious Education and Church Educational Work.
Her research focuses on liturgical studies with particular emphasis on Liturgy with and for young people, Liturgy and Ecclesiology, Liturgy and Ecumenism, and Liturgy and Women. She approaches liturgy as a means to understand sacred signs throughout history, seeking to comprehend how they originated, their meaning, and why they evolve. Her goal is to understand and celebrate encounters with God in liturgy credibly, creatively, and vibrantly for both present and future contexts.
Prof. Roppelt's recent scholarly work demonstrates a consistent engagement with ecological spirituality, youth perspectives in liturgy, interfaith dialogue, and contemporary challenges to liturgical practice. Her publications reveal a strong commitment to understanding how liturgical traditions can be adapted while maintaining theological integrity, particularly in relation to youth engagement and contemporary cultural contexts.
She is actively involved in several professional organizations including Societas Liturgica, AGENDA - Forum katholischer Theologinnen e.V., Arbeitsgemeinschaft katholischer Liturgiewissenschaftlerinnen und Liturgiewissenschaftler, and the North American Academy of Liturgy.
Prof. Roppelt teaches courses in religious education and church educational work, with recent offerings including seminars on liturgical adaptation in the 20th/21st centuries, the church as community of the spirit, and special sacramental theology. Her teaching emphasizes practical application of liturgical principles in family and societal contexts.
