Rowena Cowley

Rowena Cowley is a Senior Lecturer in Voice and Opera at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney, and serves as Director of HDR Performance Research. She holds a DMA from the Manhattan School of Music and degrees from Griffith University. Her expertise spans vocal pedagogy, classical voice performance, and contemporary opera.

Dr. Cowley's teaching roles include Unit of Study Coordinator for Voice and Opera Performance. She has led national and international professional organizations, including ANATS, and developed postgraduate courses in vocal pedagogy. Her performances include major works with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Britten's War Requiem, and world premieres of Australian art songs.

Research interests focus on vocal technique, register training, and Australian art song heritage. Her publications address pedagogical strategies and performance practices. She has adjudicated competitions nationally and contributed to grants exploring vocal acoustics.

Notable collaborations include recordings with the Sydney Conservatorium Chamber Choir and Modern Music Ensemble. Her work bridges traditional and modern vocal practices, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to music education.
