Professor Rosalind Smyth CBE is Vice Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Population Health Sciences at University College London (UCL) and an Honorary Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She holds the academic rank of Professor of Child Health within the Infection, Immunity & Inflammation Department. Her roles include Vice President (Clinical) of the UK's Academy of Medical Sciences (2023-2027), Chair of the MRC's Training and Careers Group, and Board Member of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases Research in Bangladesh. She previously directed the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (2012-2022) and served on NHS Trust governance boards.
Education: MBBS from University of London (1983), MA from University of Cambridge (1984), and postgraduate training including a Medical Doctor (Research) degree from Cambridge (1993) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (1997).
Research focuses on viral/host interactions in RSV bronchiolitis, clinical trials for childhood respiratory treatments, and drug regulation. She chaired the Paediatric Expert Advisory Group of the Commission on Human Medicines (2002-2013).
