Rosaleen Duffy is Professor and Chair of International Politics at the University of Sheffield, specializing in political ecology approaches to global environmental governance. Her research examines biodiversity conservation politics, particularly security dimensions of illegal wildlife trade and environmental crime.
She leads major research initiatives including the £859K ESRC Beastly Business Project analyzing illegal wildlife trade in European species, and previously directed the €1.8M ERC BIOSEC project on conservation-security intersections. Recognized as Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and Society of Biology.
Publications critically analyze militarization of conservation, poverty-trade linkages, and governance frameworks addressing wildlife trafficking. Current fieldwork investigates bear, eel, and songbird illegal trades across Europe through political ecology and green criminology lenses.
