Dr. George Iordachescu is a political ecologist at Wageningen University & Research, leading the ERC-funded GreenFrontier project (2024–2029) examining conservation frontiers and environmental justice in European marginal regions. His work bridges human geography, green criminology, and conservation social sciences.
Education: PhD in Political Ecology from IMT School for Advanced Studies (Lucca, 2019), MA in Social Anthropology (Central European University, 2014), and dual BA degrees in History and Sociology from Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj, 2012–2013).
Research Focus: EU conservation policies, environmental crime, human-bear conflicts, and the socio-political impacts of strict nature protection. Recent projects include Beastly Business (ESRC-funded study on European wildlife trade) and BIOSEC (ERC analysis of illegal logging in the Carpathians).
Awards: ERC Starting Grant (2024), ESRC Project Grant (2021–2023), and contributions to multiple EU/ERC initiatives.
Teaching: Supervises MSc theses and internships in forest policy and environmental conflicts. Courses include Science and Expertise in Environmental Conflicts and Forest and Nature Conservation Policy.
