Ros Steward

Ros Steward serves as Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of the West of England, Bristol, within the Department of Education and Childhood. She holds key roles including Year 1 Undergraduate Leader and module co-lead for UG3 Teacher Researcher in the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme, delivering instruction across Art & Design Primary, English, Exploring the Curriculum, Cross Curricular Teaching & Learning, and Learners, Learning and Teaching modules while supervising MA Education students.

Education: She holds an MA in Education and maintains status as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Research Focus: Her work centers on decolonising art education in primary and early years settings, evidenced by her 2023 publication on African Mask projects. She develops creative curricula for Key Stages 1-2 with emphasis on cultural representation, dialogic teaching strategies, and integrating Reading for Pleasure initiatives in English education. Her expertise extends to designing effective learning environments through working walls, displays, and book corners.

Professional Background: Previously a Key Stage 2 teacher in Bristol schools, she served on Senior Management teams as English/Science/Art & Design subject leader, NQT mentor, Head of Inclusion and Assessment for Learning, and school Governor. She maintains active membership in NSEAD, UKLA, and ASPE professional bodies.
