Ronjaunee Chatterjee

Ronjaunee Chatterjee is an Assistant Professor of English at Queen’s University and an affiliate Assistant Professor at Concordia University. She holds a PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles (2015), with a focus on 19th-century literature and critical theory. Her research integrates feminist, queer, and critical race theories with continental philosophy, particularly examining how these frameworks reshape understandings of subjectivity in Victorian literature.

Education: PhD (English, UCLA, 2015); MA (English, UCLA, 2010); BA (English, Cornell University, 2007, Magna Cum Laude). She has taught at Loyola Marymount University, CalArts, and UCLA before joining Queen’s in 2022.

Her monograph Feminine Singularity: The Politics of Subjectivity in Nineteenth-Century Literature (Stanford UP, 2022) redefines subjectivity through a lens of partiality and relationality, winning the Sonya Rudikoff Prize Honorable Mention (2024). She co-edited a special issue of Victorian Studies (2020), earning the Donald Gray Prize, and is editing George Eliot’s Middlemarch for Norton (2024).

Her work has been supported by a SSHRC Insight Grant (2021–2023) and features in journals like PMLA, Victorian Literature and Culture, and differences. Current projects explore diagrams and the diagrammatic in Victorian and modernist texts, engaging figures like George Eliot and W.E.B. Du Bois.

Awards include the NAVSA Donald Gray Prize (2022) and multiple fellowships from UCLA. Her teaching spans graduate and undergraduate courses on Victorian literature, feminist theory, and critical race studies.
