Ron Kikinis is the B. Leonard Holman Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Vice-Chair for Biomedical Informatics Research at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He founded the Surgical Planning Laboratory, pioneering medical image computing for surgical guidance and diagnostics.
His research develops computational methods for image segmentation, registration, and visualization, applied to neurosurgery, oncology, and biomedical informatics. Professor Kikinis created 3D Slicer, a widely-used open-source platform for medical image analysis.
Honors include the MICCAI Society's Enduring Impact Award and Harvard's Clifford Barger Mentoring Award. He leads major NIH initiatives including the Neuroimaging Analysis Center and Imaging Data Commons, supporting collaborative research in quantitative imaging.
Professor Kikinis has supervised over 50 doctoral students and leads research in image-guided interventions, open-source medical software, and quantitative biomarker development for precision medicine.
