Ron Kellett is a Professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA), where he served as Director from 2015 to 2023. His academic background includes a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Manitoba.
Ron’s research focuses on environmental quality, urban form, and form-based urban design tools. He co-directs the elementslab, which develops sustainability-oriented strategies for urban planning and design. This work has been recognized with awards from organizations such as the American Planning Association and American Society of Landscape Architects. He also received the Killam Teaching Prize in 2011 and was a University Sustainability Initiative Teaching and Learning Fellow (2010–2012).
His teaching includes design studios and courses on environment and urban form. He supervises graduate students in urban sustainability and related topics. The elementslab’s projects have informed policies in Canadian and U.S. cities, emphasizing energy-efficient urban models and climate action strategies.
His interdisciplinary contributions bridge architecture, urban planning, and environmental science, with publications addressing climate resilience, energy systems, and sustainable development.
