Daniel Roehr

Professor Daniel Roehr is an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA), with dual licensure as a landscape architect in British Columbia and Berlin. He leads the greenskinslab, focusing on climate resilience tools and open-access design solutions. His research bridges multisensory landscape design, living roofs, and low-impact development (LID), with notable works like the award-winning Daimler-Chrysler Green Roof Project (Berlin, 1995–2000) and the Venice Architecture Biennale-exhibited LID application. Roehr holds a Higher National Diploma in Horticulture from Askham Bryan College and a BA in Landscape Architecture from Heriot-Watt University/Edinburgh College of Art.

His research emphasizes accessible climate adaptation tools and multisensory design pedagogy, as seen in his 2022 book *Multisensory Landscape Design: A Designer’s Guide for Seeing*. He advocates for hand-drawing as a design tool through his "Off Screen Studio" blog and Instagram. Roehr’s awards include the 2016 Killam Teaching Prize and a 2013 UBC Sustainability Fellowship. His lab’s stormwater calculation tool and landslide mitigation software reflect his commitment to practical, community-focused environmental solutions.
