Ron Guthrie

Ron Guthrie serves as a Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, teaching freshman composition and literature survey courses.

His academic background includes:

• B.A. in English from UAB
• M.A. in Sociology from UAB
• M.A. in English from UAB

His research interests focus on:

• Rhetoric and composition
• American and British literature
• Horror fiction with specialization in Stephen King's works
• Epic fantasy and science fiction genres

Ron's scholarly work includes a thesis examining the development of female characters in Stephen King's novels during the first thirty years of King's career. He has taught specialized courses on King's literature and expresses interest in developing additional Special Topic courses.

Outside academia, he enjoys writing fiction, playing video games, and spending time with his wife and their six dogs and six cats at their rural Etowah County home.
