Roman Waldera

Dr. Roman Waldera is a Lecturer in the Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program at South Dakota State University (SDSU), housed within the School of Health and Human Sciences. He teaches courses encompassing athletics coaching, exercise science, motor learning, adapted physical education, and professionalism/ethics in physical education. Additionally, he co-instructs students completing their physical education student teaching practicum.

Research Interests: Dr. Waldera’s work spans youth fitness/activity levels, the role of physical activity in ADHD management, emotional intelligence development in educational settings, and youth sport coach attitudes. His exercise science research emphasizes resistance training techniques and sport biomechanics, aiming to advance practical applications in these domains.

Professional Experience: Before joining SDSU, he served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (2020-2022) and Research Assistant (2018-2022) at North Dakota State University. He also held roles as a Substitute Teacher in Fargo Public Schools (2018-2022), Personal Trainer at Courts Plus Community Fitness (2020-2022), and Assistant Track and Field Coach (Throws) at Minot State University (2015-2018). His career bridges academic instruction, applied research, and practical coaching.

Affiliations: He is a member of the Society of Health and Physical Educators of America (SHAPE America), the International Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Dance and Sport (IAHPEDS), and the South Dakota chapter of SHAPE SD.
