Roger Chavez

Roger Chavez serves as a Continuing Education Instructor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), teaching Drawing and Painting courses to community learners outside formal degree programs.

His educational foundation includes an MFA from American University, Washington D.C., and a Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia.

Chavez's artistic practice constitutes philosophical investigation through painting, focusing on mortality, timelessness, and identity. By repeatedly examining the same subject over extended periods, he documents perceptual shifts through layered compositions built by adding and subtracting painterly forms. This process progressively conceals original subject matter while creating psychological depth. He employs a muted palette of tonal grays derived from prismatic hues, enabling subtle color temperature variations that enhance the work's contemplative qualities.
