Michael Gallagher is a Professor in the Department of Painting and Drawing within the School of Fine Arts at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). He is actively involved in teaching across the Graduate Studies, Certificate/BFA, and Continuing Education programs, offering courses in Drawing/Mixed Media, Still Life Painting, Advanced Painting, and the Painting Thesis Seminar.
His artistic practice explores the interplay between abstraction and representation in painting. Gallagher studied at PAFA and has exhibited widely, including six solo exhibitions at Schmidt/Dean Gallery in Philadelphia and representation by Edgewood Orchard Galleries in Wisconsin. His work is held in public and corporate collections such as the Woodmere Art Museum and Wilmington Trust.
He has been recognized for his pedagogical excellence, receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2007 and 2011. Gallagher also contributes as a critic in the Certificate/BFA program and mentors students across multiple academic levels.
