About
Rocco CHIRIVI' is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Physics "Ennio De Giorgi" at the University of Salento. His research focuses on algebra, particularly representation theory, algebraic geometry, and combinatorics.
Dr. CHIRIVI' earned his PhD from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa in 2000 under the supervision of Professors Corrado De Concini and Peter Littelmann. Prior to this, he graduated in Mathematics from the University of Pisa in 1995 with 110/110 cum laude and obtained a Diploma in Mathematics from the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa in 1997 with 70/70 and honors.
His research interests span several areas of pure mathematics with a focus on algebraic structures. He has made significant contributions to the study of symmetric varieties, representation theory of Lie groups and algebras, algebraic combinatorics, and geometric invariant theory. His work often explores the connections between algebraic structures and geometric objects, with particular attention to the combinatorial aspects of representation theory.
Dr. CHIRIVI''s publications over the past two decades demonstrate a consistent focus on algebraic structures, particularly in representation theory and algebraic geometry. His research has evolved from foundational work on LS algebras and Schubert varieties to more recent investigations into space forms, group resolutions, and standard monomial theory for wonderful varieties. A recurring theme in his work is the study of symmetric varieties and their properties, including normality conditions, defining equations, and projective embeddings.
He has collaborated with prominent mathematicians such as Andrea Maffei, Paolo Bravi, Jacopo Gandini, and Shrawan Kumar, producing significant results in representation theory and algebraic geometry. His work appears in respected journals including the Journal of Algebra, Transformation Groups, and the Kyoto Journal of Mathematics.
Dr. CHIRIVI' has served as a researcher at the Louis Pasteur University of Strasbourg, the University "La Sapienza" of Rome, and the University of Pisa before joining the University of Salento in 2012. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Geometry at the University of Salento in December 2019.
