Dr. Gray’s research centers on the politics of Indigeneity in settler colonial contexts, addressing foundational issues in Indigenous cultural heritage representation, preservation, and ownership. She advocates for rematriation—a decolonial framework prioritizing Indigenous laws, ethics, and protocols—to challenge Euro-Western repatriation paradigms.
Her projects include an SSHRC Insight Development Grant for “The Repatriation of Song” and collaboration on the SSHRC Insight Grant “Caring for Our Ancestors.” She has published in journals such as Native American and Indigenous Studies Journal and Museum Anthropology, and contributed to the edited volume Where the Power Is.
