About
Dr. Roberto Angelini is a Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences at Swansea University's School of Medicine, affiliated with the Life Science Institute. His research focuses on lipid structures and their biological functions, particularly using mass spectrometry in lipidomics studies. He holds a Master's and Ph.D. from the University of Bari and conducted postdoctoral work at the University of Pittsburgh and University of California, Irvine. He joined Swansea in 2020 through an MSCA-COFUND Fellowship, developing mass spectrometry programs for sterol imaging in the brain.
His expertise spans lipidomics, biochemistry of lipids, analytical biochemistry, and neuroscience. He teaches modules such as Neurochemistry, Metabolism, and Advanced Research Skills. His research aims to elucidate lipid roles in health and disease, with recent work on cholesterol metabolism in neurodegenerative diseases like multiple sclerosis and synaptic plasmalogen function.
Dr. Angelini supervises interdisciplinary projects on lipidomics and neurodegeneration. His lab employs cutting-edge mass spectrometry techniques and collaborates internationally. He is committed to training the next generation of lipid researchers through integrated teaching and research programs.
