Robert Riener is a Full Professor at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST), ETH Zurich, and holds a professorship in medicine at the Balgrist University Hospital (University of Zurich). His academic journey includes a Dipl.-Ing. and Dr. degree from TU München (1993, 1997), followed by postdoctoral work at Politecnico di Milano and habilitation in Biomechatronics. He has led D-HEST (2016–2018) and pioneered robots for rehabilitation and sports. His research focuses on human biomechanics, virtual reality, sleep robotics, and rehabilitation robotics, with over 500 publications and patents.
