About
Robert Myers is a Director Emeritus and BMO Financial Group Isaac Newton Chair in Theoretical Physics at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI), where he also holds a Perimeter Research Chair. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo. Myers has served in leadership roles at PI, including Executive Director (2019–2024), Acting Director, and Faculty Chair. His research focuses on quantum fields, strings, and gravity, with contributions to AdS/CFT correspondence and quantum information theory.
Education: Ph.D. in Physics from Princeton University (1986), followed by postdoctoral research at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (UC Santa Barbara). He was a Professor at McGill University (1989–2001) before co-founding PI.
Research interests emphasize string theory, quantum gravity, and their intersections with quantum information. His work has been recognized through awards like the CAP Medal for Lifetime Achievement (2023), Herzberg Medal (1999), and Royal Society of Canada Fellowship (2006).
Advising and grants: Myers has supervised graduate students at the University of Waterloo. He has held editorial roles at Annals of Physics and Journal of High Energy Physics.
Labs/teams: A core member of PI's Quantum Fields and Strings group, contributing to collaborative projects in holography and quantum gravity.
