Robert Darby

Robert Darby is an Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Tennessee's School of Art. He holds a graduate degree in Greek and Roman Art and Archaeology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Before joining UT, he taught at Elon University and North Carolina State University. His career includes fellowships at the Albright Institute of Archaeological Research (Jerusalem) and the American Center of Oriental Research (Amman, Jordan).

His research focuses on Roman baths, iconography, and Roman provincial art in the Near East. He co-directs excavations at the ancient site of ‘Ayn Gharandal in southern Jordan, emphasizing material culture analysis. His work bridges archaeological fieldwork with iconographic analysis of Roman imperial and provincial art forms.
