Robert Appleyard

Robert Appleyard is a Senior Lecturer in Radiotherapy and Oncology at Sheffield Hallam University, serving as the Post Graduate Research Tutor for Health since 1998. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, focusing on research methods, image-guided radiotherapy, and radiation physics. His research interests include radiography/radiotherapy workforce dynamics, upright radiotherapy, and the application of virtual reality (VR) and simulation in healthcare education.

Dr. Appleyard holds a PhD, MSc, BSc, DCR(T), and PGCE qualifications. He contributes to the Centre for Applied Health and Social Care Research (CARe), focusing on cancer management and workforce challenges. His recent work explores the imaging support workforce in England and patient perspectives on upright radiotherapy. He actively supervises PhD students researching topics like radiotherapy service development, occupational health, and VR in medical training.

Peer-reviewed publications span over two decades, addressing dosimetry, workforce analysis, and technological advancements in radiotherapy. Dr. Appleyard reviews for journals like Radiography and serves on the College of Radiographers' Formal Research Mentoring Programme steering group. His labs and collaborations emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to improving healthcare education and clinical practices.
