Robert A. Maxwell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Pennsylvania's College of Arts and Sciences. During 2003–2004, he held the Andrew W. Mellon Penn Faculty Fellowship in the Humanities, during which he investigated historical self-consciousness in the visual arts of feudal Aquitaine.
Research Interests: His work focuses on the interplay between art, historical narrative, and cultural memory in medieval Europe. Key areas include the role of urbanization in reshaping historical consciousness, the integration of family genealogy with mythic storytelling in art, and the use of monumental architecture as a medium for historical commentary.
