Dr Rob Clough serves as a Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences within the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Plymouth. He manages the Plymouth Atomic Mass Spectrometry Facility and the SoGEES ISO 9001 quality management system.
His expertise centers on advanced analytical instrumentation, particularly inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), with strong emphasis on sample preparation techniques, data quality assurance, and chemical metrology. His work bridges environmental science and high-accuracy analytical chemistry to support geochemical research.
Dr Clough delivers practical-based teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs including B.Sc. Chemistry, B.Sc. Environmental Science, MSc Data Science and Environmental Intelligence, and MSc Environmental Geochemistry.
He maintains operational leadership of the Plymouth Atomic Mass Spectrometry Facility, which provides critical analytical services for environmental and geochemical research requiring precision measurement standards.
