About
Ritchie Williamson is an Associate Professor and Group Lead in Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics at the University of Bradford's School of Pharmacy & Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Life Sciences. His roles include Lecturer in Therapeutics (2013–present) and Group Lead (2019–present).
Education:
- PhD in Neuroscience, Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London (2001)
- MSc Neuroscience, Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London (1997)

Research Focus: Investigates molecular mechanisms linking metabolic pathways (e.g., glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity) to age-related cognitive decline and dementia. Key areas include protein O-GlcNAcylation, which is implicated in Alzheimer’s disease. Research explores how metabolic risk factors (diabetes, obesity) interact with aging to influence dementia pathogenesis.
Publications: Authored 29 publications including 24 peer-reviewed journal articles, 3 reviews, and 2 book chapters.
Awards: Alzheimer’s Society Research Fellowship (2001–2004).
Lab & Teams: Leads the Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics research group, focusing on translational studies bridging basic molecular mechanisms and clinical implications in dementia.
