Rita Hagevik

Dr. Rita Hagevik is a Professor of Biology and Director of Graduate Programs in Science Education at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She holds a PhD in Science Education and Forestry from North Carolina State University, with certifications in K-12 teaching, Geographic Information Systems, gifted education, and environmental education. Her research focuses on environmental education, sustainability, and preparing teachers with geotechnology tools.

She leads initiatives including the Kids in the Garden grant at the UNCP Campus Garden & Apiary and co-leads the NSF S-STEM COMPASS II grant. Her research integrates sustainable gardening practices, pollinator conservation, and technological applications in environmental education.
