Rio Maligalig is a Grant-Funded Researcher at the School of Economics and Public Policy, part of the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics at The University of Adelaide. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the same institution, with dissertation research focused on Filipino smallholder rice farmers' preferences for rice variety traits using an experimental Investment Game Application (IGA). Her research integrates quantitative and qualitative methods to address challenges in agricultural productivity and food/nutrition security in developing economies.
Her current projects include impact assessments of the Seeds of Life initiative in Timor-Leste and enhancing food security through farming household studies in Southeast Asia. She has contributed to high-impact studies on Philippine and Indonesian smallholder dairy sectors, as well as ACIAR-supported programs. Rio is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students in agricultural economics and related fields.
Her research interests span smallholder farming systems, experimental economics applications, and value chain analysis. Collaboration with international researchers and local stakeholders is a hallmark of her work.
