Riitta Suhonen is a Professor in Nursing Science at the University of Turku, specializing in Gerontological Nursing Science since 2011. She serves as Director of the Doctoral Programme in Nursing Science (DPNurs) and holds a part-time position as Nursing Director at Turku University Hospital under the Wellbeing Services County of Southwest Finland.
- Research Leadership: Scientific leader of the 'Older Individuals' Health, Nursing and Services' and co-leader of the 'Ethical healthcare and Nursing' research programs.
- Key Expertise: Gerontological nursing, individualized care, ethics, management, and self-management support for older adults.
Her work focuses on developing quality care processes for older people through the Individualized Care Project, which produced the globally adapted Individualised Care Scale. She has led international cross-cultural studies like the CBI-project and RightTimePlaceCare, and contributed to the COST Action RANCARE CA15208 as a WG3 leader on nursing ethics.
