Rick Quax is an Assistant Professor at the University of Amsterdam and a member of the Computational Science Lab. He is also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS), a Resident Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies, and actively involved in academic organizations such as the Dutch Chapter of NetSci, Dutch Institute for Emergent Phenomena, and the Netherlands Platform for Complex Systems.
Quax's research focuses on understanding complex systemic behavior through information theory, with applications in biomedicine, organized crime, and dynamical systems. His work includes developing novel network science methods, analyzing socio-economic health inequalities, and studying resilience in aging and disease. He collaborates across disciplines and institutions, including Radboud UMC, AMC, and ITMO University.
Quax leads or co-leads multiple funded projects, such as the NWO Complexity Grant for social networks in aging and the ZonMw Grant for health inequality research. He is an Assistant Editor for the Journal of Computational Science and organizes the Information Processing in Complex Systems workshop.
