Richard Weyhing is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the History Department at the State University of New York at Oswego. His research focuses on Early America, Native American history, and comparative colonial empires in the Atlantic World. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (2012), an M.A. (2005), and a B.A. (2003) from the University of Michigan.
His research explores colonial conflicts, indigenous diplomacies, and the dynamics of early modern empires. Recent work includes analyses of the 1712 Fox Indian Massacre in Detroit, French colonial alliances in the Pays d'en Haut, and the foundational narratives of Detroit under Antoine Cadillac. His publications engage with themes of frontier warfare, ethnohistoric methodologies, and the interplay between colonial powers and Indigenous nations.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on U.S. History to 1865, Native American History, Colonial America, and the American Revolution. Office hours are held Tuesdays/Thursdays 9:00-11:00 AM or by appointment.
