Richard Mingus

Richard Mingus is a sessional instructor of French horn at Trinity Western University (TWU) since 2007 and teaches at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where he leads a Horn Ensemble Class. He holds the position of First Assistant Horn with the Vancouver Symphony since 1983 and actively participates in freelance recordings for films/TV and chamber music groups. His career spans roles as Principal Horn in the Calgary Philharmonic (1974–1979) and Maracaibo Symphony Orchestra (Venezuela), with extensive experience in orchestral performances across North America.

• Bachelor of Music Education from Oberlin Conservatory of Music (Cleveland, Ohio)
• Master of Music (MMus) from Ohio University (Athens, Ohio) and Yale Summer School of Music and Art (Norfolk, Connecticut)

His research interests focus on music pedagogy, ensemble performance techniques, and French horn repertoire. He co-leads annual Spring Recitals at UBC and collaborates with chamber groups like the Easter Brass Quintet and Trilogy Brass. Personal interests include jogging, hiking, and family life as a grandfather.
