About
Dr. Richard Lloyd leads the Richard Lloyd Lab at the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology, Baylor College of Medicine. His research focuses on the interplay between enterovirus infections, stress granules, P-bodies, and innate immune responses.

Research Interests: The lab investigates how enteroviruses (e.g., poliovirus, Coxsackievirus) manipulate cellular stress responses, particularly stress granule and P-body dynamics, to trigger Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) via autoimmune mechanisms. Key projects include analyzing viral RNA in human pancreas tissues through the nPOD-V consortium and conducting virome studies in the TEDDY clinical cohort.
Collaborations: Dr. Lloyd collaborates with Dr. Joe Petrosino (BCM Center for Microbiome and Metagenetics) and Dr. Mary Estes (Molecular Virology and Microbiology) on enterovirus-linked T1D research and enteroid models of gut infection.
