Richard Benjafield

Richard Benjafield is a Professor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama since 1995 and has served as Head of Wind, Brass, and Percussion since 2009. He is a co-founder of Ensemble Bash, the UK's first established percussion quartet, which has commissioned over forty new works, performed globally, and contributed to music education through outreach programs. His performances include collaborations with renowned composers like Steve Reich and John Cage, as well as orchestras such as the London Sinfonietta and BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has also conducted BBC Total Immersion concerts focused on avant-garde composers.

Education includes studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), University of Ghana, and Tanglewood Music Centre. Richard has recorded works for Sony Classical and BBC Radio/TV, and his career spans over three decades in both performance and academic leadership.

Notable awards include his 2013 appointment as a Fellow of the Guildhall School. As an educator and performer, his work emphasizes contemporary music exploration and interdisciplinary collaborations. He remains active in shaping the school's curriculum and promoting new musical repertoire.
