René Prieto

René Prieto is a Professor of Literature at the University of Texas at Dallas, specializing in 19th-20th century European and Latin American literature. His research examines narrative structures, gender, sexuality, and cultural identity through literary theory frameworks.

Education includes: Diplôme d'Études Avancées (Ecole des Hautes Études, 2018), PhD in Comparative Literature (Stanford, 1980), MA (Sorbonne, 1974), and dual BAs in French/Chinese literature (Sorbonne, 1973). Fluent in five languages.

Research focuses on ethical-political dimensions of love in Latin American fiction. Current book project 'Blood Ties' analyzes paternal roles in foundational Latin American narratives.

Awards include three NEH grants and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Served as co-editor for Library of Congress' Central American literature section and editorial board member for Latin American Literature Journal.
