Erica Durante is an Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies at Brown University. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Université Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris III (2004). Previously, she served as Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Louvain (2010–2017).
Her research focuses on three main areas: creative processes in 20th/21st-century Latin American literature (manuscripts, archives, author libraries), narratives addressing repression/human rights/social inequality through gender/class lenses, and globalization’s cultural impact. She has authored or edited books such as Air Travel Fiction and Film: Cloud People (2020) and Questions de poétique et d’écriture (2008).
Prof. Durante’s work extends beyond academia, including cataloging Jorge Luis Borges’ personal library (Rockefeller Center-funded project, 2007–2009) and co-founding the Providence Iberoamerican Literature Festival (FLIP, 2024). She teaches courses on Latin American literature, cultural history, and engaged humanities, and is fluent in Spanish, English, French, and Italian.
