About
Professor Renee Luthra is Professor of Sociology at the University of Essex and Deputy Director of the ESRC Research Centre on Micro-Social Change (MiSoC). Her research examines migration, educational inequality, and intergenerational mobility using large-scale longitudinal data.
Key studies analyze how migration selectivity shapes health and social outcomes, educational attainment among second-generation immigrants, and national identity formation. Current projects investigate parental separation in immigrant families and education gaps in attitudes toward minorities.
Professor Luthra founded Essex's Centre for Migration Studies and teaches advanced quantitative methods. She supervises four PhD students and has secured major funding from ESRC, Nuffield Foundation, and Leverhulme Trust. Her monograph Origins and Destinations (2018) redefines contextual analysis in migration studies.
