Reinhard Wieser

Reinhard Wieser is a Universitätsprofessor (Professor) at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK), leading his clarinet class since 1996. He is also a principal clarinetist of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, a role he has held for 35 years. His artistic career spans solo performances, chamber music collaborations, and orchestral engagements across Europe and Japan. As a pedagogue, he mentors students who later join prestigious orchestras like the Vienna Philharmonic. Wieser’s research focuses on Mozart’s wind chamber music, and he has recorded notable works such as Jean Françaix’s Theme and Variations and Vítězslava Kaprálová’s Concertino.

His chamber collaborations include groups like the Vienna Chamber Musicians and the Johann Strauss Ensemble, with performances at festivals like the ICA and tours in Europe, North America, and Asia. He regularly holds masterclasses in Austria, Germany, Japan, and the USA, and serves as a jury member at international competitions.
