Dr. Reed Welch is the Teel Bivins Professor of American Politics and Department Head of Political Science and Criminal Justice at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU). He joined the faculty in 2000 and holds a B.A. in political science from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. in political science from Texas A&M University. His research focuses on presidential leadership, public opinion, political communications, and campaigns and elections. He teaches courses on American government, including the presidency, elections, public opinion, and political institutions.
Dr. Welch has authored numerous articles in prestigious journals such as the American Journal of Political Science, Harvard International Journal of Press/Politics, Congress and the Presidency, and Presidential Studies Quarterly. His work contributes to understanding political processes and leadership dynamics in the U.S. context.
As a full-time faculty member and department head, Dr. Welch oversees academic programs, faculty development, and curriculum design within the Political Science and Criminal Justice Department. His role includes fostering student success through teaching, research mentorship, and program administration.
