Rev. Dr. Reed Carlson is an Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies at United Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia, where he previously served as Director of Anglican Studies. He holds a Th.D. in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament from Harvard University, alongside degrees from Luther Seminary and North Central University. His research focuses on critical examination of ancient and modern religious experiences, particularly spirit possession and apocalyptic expectation in biblical and contemporary contexts. His 2022 monograph Unfamiliar Selves in the Hebrew Bible received the Manfred Lautenschläger Award. Currently co-editing Ominous Times: Anticipating Cataclysm in Early Judaism and Christianity, he bridges scholarly and pastoral engagement with religious phenomena.
