Rebecca Walz is a Lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where she teaches interdisciplinary art courses focusing on advanced projects, drawing, painting, and critical theory. She holds an MFA from SAIC and a BFA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her work explores themes of eroticism, excess, and gender, with exhibitions at institutions like the Carnegie Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and LAXART. Her art is included in major collections such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Joan Flasch Artist’s Books Collection.
Walz’s research integrates artistic practice with theoretical frameworks, as seen in her course Erotics of Excess, which examines intersections of sex, gender, and representation through painting, drawing, and interdisciplinary methods. She has received residencies from prestigious programs including Yaddo and the Vermont Studio Center.
She teaches advanced studio courses in SAIC’s Summer Institute and Liberal Arts programs, emphasizing self-directed projects, material experimentation, and critical discourse. Her courses combine studio work with critiques, field trips, and interdisciplinary readings from art theory, psychology, and literature.
