Sheffield Hallam UniversityAbout
Dr Rebecca Hamer is a Research Associate at Sheffield Hallam University's College of Social Sciences and Arts, affiliated with the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research and the Social and Economic Research Institute. Her work focuses on trauma-informed approaches to marginalised women's experiences, particularly those impacted by systemic trauma, addiction, and survival sex work. She collaborates with voluntary and statutory sectors to evaluate policies and develop trauma-responsive practices.
Her research interests include neoliberalism's gendered impacts, qualitative methodologies, and intersectional analyses of marginalization. She recently led evaluations of Rotherham’s Trauma and Resilience Service, contributing to policy development through projects like Travelling Through Trauma. Current work involves a fellowship creating a multidisciplinary trauma-informed community of practice involving survivors and professionals.
Publications highlight her exploration of gendered state frameworks (e.g., The Scylla State) and digital spaces in commercial sex work. Her work bridges academic research with practical policy interventions to address systemic inequities affecting vulnerable populations.
