Rebecca Clark Schmerer

Rebecca Clark Schmerer is a Lecturer in Core Studies at Oglethorpe University, located in Atlanta, GA. She previously taught at the University of New Hampshire, Emory University, and Boston College before joining Oglethorpe. Her office is located in Hearst 205A.

• B.A. in Government and Environmental Studies (with Spanish Minor) from Bowdoin College
• Ph.D. in Political Science from Boston College

Her research focuses on classical/modern political philosophy, American political thought from the 17th-19th centuries, evolution of liberal institutions, social penalties like public shaming, and intellectual figures such as Montesquieu and Rousseau. She also explores Hebraic political thought.
