Raúl Coronado

Raúl Coronado is an Associate Professor in the Departments of English and Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California, Berkeley. His work focuses on redefining Latina/o literary and intellectual history through a transnational lens, challenging traditional boundaries between U.S. and Latin American studies. He explores how colonial and 19th-century print cultures shaped modernity debates and citizenship in the Americas.

His research interests include histories of sexuality, academic disciplines, and comparative colonial writing. He emphasizes the role of printing presses in fostering transnational dialogues among Spanish Americans seeking independence in the 18th and 19th centuries. His work bridges literary analysis with postcolonial and modernity theories, advocating for a reimagined hemispheric literary geography.

Coronado’s publications analyze topics like Latina/o textuality, colonial modernities, and queer Latinx histories. His 2013 book on Latino print culture and 2016 studies on 19th-century texts exemplify his commitment to archival recovery and interdisciplinary scholarship. He teaches courses on colonial literatures, Chicano/a studies, and transnational American studies.
