About
Raymond Unocic is an Adjunct Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Materials Science and Engineering and a joint faculty member at the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education (University of Tennessee/Oak Ridge National Laboratory). He is also a R&D Staff Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences Division.
- Education: Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University (2008)
- Affiliations: ORNL, Georgia Tech, Bredesen Center
His research focuses on novel electron microscopy techniques, particularly in situ/operando STEM, to study materials transformations under environmental conditions (liquid/gas, thermal, electrical, and stress). He is an expert in aberration-corrected STEM/EELS/EDS for atomic-scale structure and chemistry analysis.
Professional Engagement: Leads MSA's focused interest group on in situ microscopy in liquids/gases. Organizes conferences on materials characterization and nanotechnology.
- Awards: R&D 100 Award, Birks Award, multiple ORNL/UT-Battelle recognitions
He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed articles, 2 book chapters, and holds 1 U.S. Patent. His work spans interdisciplinary applications in additive manufacturing, biomaterials, and mechanical properties of advanced materials.
