Ray Shows

Ray Shows is a Lecturer in Violin and Viola at St. Olaf College since 2000. He is a Colombian-American violinist and music educator with a distinguished performance background and leadership roles in chamber music programs.

• Education: Performance degrees from Boston University (magna cum laude) and Florida State University. Accepted into the Artist Diploma program at Longy School of Music.
• Performance History: Solo violin debut in Atlanta, concerts in major U.S. and European venues, and appearances on ABC, NPR, Canadian Broadcasting, and the L’Epau Festival.
• Leadership & Awards: Founder of the Artaria String Quartet, which competed at the Banff International String Quartet Competition. Recipient of the 2004 McKnight Fellowship and 2010 Master Studio Teacher Award.
• Teaching & Grants: Multi-year residencies at Boston College, Viterbo University, Florida State University, and Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory. Grants from NEA, Chamber Music America, Minnesota State Arts Board, and Heartland Fund.
• Instrument: Plays a rare French violin (Andrea Castagneri, Paris 1735) and bows by Pierre Simon and Emile Ouchard.
