Ray Nolan

Ray Nolan is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Service Sector Management at Sheffield Hallam University's Sheffield Business School. He holds a PhD (ongoing) focusing on cross-sector partnerships to prevent the 'tourism-human trafficking nexus.' His qualifications include a BA (Hons) in Tourism & Recreation Management (1993), MSc Environmental Management (2002), MA SSRM (2013), and a PGc in Learning and Teaching (2014). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Dr. Nolan's research focuses on human trafficking within the tourism industry, ecotourism impacts, and sustainability strategies. He has managed international projects including the Tourism Industry Carbon Offset Scheme (TICOS) and led EU-funded proposals (e.g., FP7 projects engaging Europol and Interpol). He advises organizations like UNWTO, ECPAT, and Natural England, and delivers CPD workshops for HSBC and NHS.

His external roles include membership in the UK Modern Slavery Advisory Forum and serving as International Recruitment Faculty Officer. Awards include the 2015 Inspirational Teaching Award and a UK government partnership award (2012). He has secured grants from EU DG Justice, ESRC, and the Pedagogic Innovation Fund.

His work emphasizes applied research collaboration between academia, industry, and public sectors, particularly in trafficking prevention, policy development, and knowledge transfer initiatives.
