Rami Qahwaji

Professor Rami Qahwaji is a Professor of Visual Computing at the University of Bradford, working within the School of CSAI&E in the Faculty of Engineering and Digital Technologies. He serves as the Research Excellence Framework (REF) Unit of Assessment Coordinator for Computer Science and Informatics for both REF2021 and REF2029.

His research spans multiple domains including artificial intelligence, satellite and space imaging, remote sensing, digital health, medical imaging, biometrics, and data visualization. Professor Qahwaji has established significant collaborations with NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), the NHS, government bodies, and various SMEs. He leads the Space Weather Research Group at the University of Bradford and has secured several million pounds in research funding from UK and European agencies.

Professor Qahwaji has held numerous leadership positions including serving on the University Senate and Council (2019-2022), chairing the Computing Industry Advisory Board, serving as Academic Lead for the Healthcare Technology Unit within the Digital Health Enterprise Zone (DHEZ), and directing the Digital Catapult Centre Yorkshire (2015-2018).

With an academic background in Electrical Engineering, Professor Qahwaji holds an MSc in Control and Computer Engineering and a PhD in AI and Visual Computing. He has supervised 40 completed PhD projects and over 150 MSc projects, and serves as an external examiner for several UK and international universities. He has authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications and delivered numerous keynote speeches at national and international conferences.
