Rainer Huhle is a faculty member at Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), contributing to the Master Programme in Human Rights. He teaches Transitional Justice alongside Laura Clérico. With a PhD in Political Science from FAU, his career bridges academia and human rights practice, including UN roles and NGO work in Peru. He co-founded the Nuremberg Human Rights Center (NMRZ e.V.) and served on the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearance (CED), co-authoring UN Guiding Principles for the Search for Disappeared Persons. Currently, he leads an international research project on best practices for locating disappeared individuals and advises on human rights in Latin America.
His research focuses on human rights history, memorialization of crimes, and combating impunity. He curated the Nuremberg Trials exhibition at the Palace of Nuremberg, linking historical memory to contemporary human rights advocacy. Beyond academia, his work includes UN field experience in Colombia and volunteer efforts with NGOs.
Rainer holds advisory roles in multiple Latin American countries and has engaged in initiatives like the FFVT Summer School 2022 on Displacement and Human Rights. Despite no listed awards, his impactful contributions to human rights frameworks and policy are widely recognized.
