Rachel Jenkins is Professor of Epidemiology and International Mental Health Policy at King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry. Directs the WHO Collaborating Centre for mental health research and policy development.
Research encompasses mental health epidemiology, service development, and policy implementation across diverse settings. Current projects include: cluster randomized trials of mental health integration in primary care (Malawi, Kenya, Iraq), epidemiological studies of COVID-19 mental health impacts, and UK psychiatric morbidity surveys.
Authored over 300 publications on topics including suicide prevention, prison mental health, and global mental health capacity building. Serves on WHO expert committees and advises governments internationally on mental health policy reform.
Education includes medical training at Maudsley Hospital and research training at Institute of Psychiatry. Previously served as Principal Medical Officer for Mental Health in England's Department of Health (1988-1996), initiating the National Psychiatric Morbidity Survey Programme.
