Dr. Rachel Hann is Associate Professor of Performance and Design at Northumbria University, researching scenography, climate crisis, and transness. Her monograph 'Beyond Scenography' was shortlisted for the Prague Quadrennial 2019 Best Publication Prize. She leads an AHRC Fellowship on trans/nonbinary performance and co-founded the Critical Costume research network.
Research interests span scenographic cultures, trans performance techniques, digital humanities in heritage visualization, and modernist performance. Recent publications examine how performance engages with climate crisis and trans identities through material cultures and atmospheric aesthetics.
Supervises 15 PhD projects including eco-somatics, digital scenography, trans embodiment, and neurodivergent performance. Previously served as Chair of Theatre and Performance Research Association and held leadership roles in doctoral education.
